Born on April 29, 1949 in Melun, he died on November 5, 2023 in Argol, Brittany. He studied classical literature, first at the Institution Saint-Joseph in Lannion between 1960 and 1964, when his family lived in Yerres, then in Rennes from 1962, before continuing his education at the Lycée Saint-Martin in Rennes. He then obtained a degree in English, an education that nurtured his relationship with language and narrative. Malo Louarn began his professional career as a cartoonist for leading weeklies such as Le Journal de Tintin and Spirou, following in the great tradition of Franco-Belgian comics. He also worked in the Rennes studio of Jean-Claude Fournier, a major figure in the ninth art, an experience that played a decisive role in his artistic career. Alongside his work as a comic strip artist, Malo Louarn collaborates with the audiovisual media. He produced news cartoons for FR3 Bretagne, before working for Antenne 2, developing a style of drawing rooted in observation of reality and current events. Between 1985 and 1989, he published the adventures of Rona in the daily newspaper Ouest-France, a series that testifies to his commitment to accessible comics, based on readers' everyday lives and distributed in the regional press. Malo Louarn's career has given him a unique place in the French comics scene, between the children's press, the daily press and news cartoons, making a lasting contribution to the vitality of graphic design in Brittany and beyond.
