Ancient Tiki, asexual anthropomorphic representation shown s - Lot 288
Ancient Tiki, asexual anthropomorphic representation shown standing in the "Polynesian Stance" position. The powerful legs are slightly bent, the hands are placed on the rounded belly on either side of the navel and the head is placed low on the shoulders. The thick, powerful torso features pectoral muscles protruding from the front and scapulae sculpted into the back on either side of the vertebral groove. The rounded buttocks sit low on strong legs with angular calves. The feet are fluted around the edges and the hands have five digits each. The large head, round and smooth at the top, shows a large face with a typical visage of classical Marquesan art. The large eyes with ringed sockets and beveled pupils join the flared nose and circular, chamfered-edged ears to form a mask above the large mouth with thick, protruding lips half-open to let the tip of the tongue pass through. Basalt lava stone with patina (various deposits, minor chips and wear). Dimensions: 15 x 8.5 x 7.5 cm. Polynesia. Marquesas Islands. 19th century or earlier. A microscopic and spectrographic study by ART in LAB will be provided to the purchaser.
