Gilt silver CALICE AND PEDESTAL (950). PARIS, F.-J. BERTRAND-PARAUD, 1819-1838. It stands on a circular foot decorated with ribbon-knotted palms and circular medallions centered on roses. The domed top of the foot is adorned with cartouches of oval medallions and wheat ears alternating with vine branches on an amatized background. Three scenes from the Passion are depicted: Christ in the Garden of Olives, the Carrying of the Cross and the Crucifixion. cartouches with shells, bunches of grapes, ears of wheat and reeds. Between two laurel tori, the stem features a piriform knot adorned with water leaves at the base, a sheaf of reeds, vine shoots and ears of wheat. The openwork faux-cup repeats these motifs, alternating with oval medallions depicting a bishop doctor of the Church (St. Augustine?), the Virgin and Child overcoming heresy represented by a dragon, and St. Louis holding the Crown of Thorns. Decorated with beaded friezes and water-leaf friezes on the foot and stem. The paten is adorned with a circular medallion depicting the Meal at Emmaus, surrounded by a beaded band decorated with vine branches. Very slight deformation at the base of the foot.
