Cabin sink in blond mahogany. Zinc water tank at the top. In - Lot 23
Cabin sink in blond mahogany. Zinc water tank at the top. In the middle part, a flap on which a washbasin is fixed, tap present. In the lower part, waste water collection tank. Height 125 cm, width 50 cm. Sold as is. Note: Marine washbasins and secretaries were generally designed for ship cabins. They were industrially manufactured by joinery companies to fit out ship cabins. However, these pieces of furniture could have a completely different purpose and use than that of being in boats. In the cabins, they were simply bolted to the cabin structure. When the boat died or was broken up, this furniture could easily be dismantled and saved. The cabin washbasins were small pieces of furniture, because the cabins were small. In the upper part, hidden by a mirror and small shelves, was a zinc water reservoir, which was filled with a jug by the crew. In the middle section, an earthenware washbasin mounted on an open flap was used for washing and, when closed, allowed the water to drain into a zinc drip tray located in the lower section, which was also emptied by the ship's staff. These washbasins vary in style, depending on the class of cabin in which they were installed. They are generally made of varnished mahogany. Faucets and chrome-plated bronze hardware were generally very well made.
